Pistol

Pistol

Pistol is an 18 year old Small Shetland.  She has been a family pony with one of our own volunteers, and does not have any form of neglect background.  Pistol is shy and apprehensive of strangers, and exhibits this by not wanting to be caught by those she does not know.  She is very compliant once she knows you.  She has been ridden by toddlers and young children as a lead line pony and she enjoys her job very much. This lovely little mare is in need of a new home as her current owners are downsizing. We are aiding them with her placement.  Please go to our online adoption application and apply to adopt Pistol if a children’s lead line pony is in your...

Storm

Storm

Breed: Morgan Age: 18 Height: 15.1HH Storm came to Safe Harbor when his owner could no longer afford to feed him.  He was underweight, and in need of weight gain rehab. Storm was formerly a show horse, and we were told he competed at the national level, all around including Hunter/Jumper.  We were told his registered name is Dancastle Stormwarning, but we do not have his papers to verify that, and he is being placed for adoption without verification of his registration. Storm does need to be on a low starch, high fat diet (he eats Nutrena SafeChoice Perform in rescue).  He does not maintain his weight on grass alone.  He does have current proof of negative coggins and is up to date on all vaccinations, routine deworming and hoof care.  He is well-trained and of course, broke to ride, though he has been out of work for some time. His adoption fee is...

TOBY IS IN REHAB.  His owners had lost their financial resources, and Toby was not being fed as a result.  He is currently in weight gain, and will be updated to adoptable status once he reaches a body score of 4 on the Henneke Scale. Prior to training, Toby’s adoption fee is set at $500 and he is adoptable to a trainer level home, or an adopter willing to send him to full training.  His adoption fee will increase once training has started in the rescue.  He is accepting applications now, but is not yet cleared for...

Chocktaw

Chocktaw

PENDING ADOPTION Chocktaw is a 15.3hh, 22 year old Tennessee Walking Horse.  He is a gorgeous sorrel and white gelding who suffered unimaginable neglect. In our five year history, we can count on one hand the number of horses who came to us with a body score of zero–barely clinging to life, solely due to starvation.  Chocktaw is one of these horses.  His first weeks with us he was touch and go, not always able to stand, and terribly weak.  We weren’t sure if he would make it, but he had a strong will to live and he has thrived with normal routine care. Chocktaw is now a body score of 3.  He is not quite yet cleared for adoption, but the issues he had, rain rot, hoof infection, extreme emaciation are all in the past.  Chocktaw is very gentle natured, and enjoys quiet talk, and being brushed and groomed.  He is good for the farrier, leads, loads, ties and stalls. Chocktaw is accepting applications now for when he is cleared for adoption, and his adoption fee will be...

Cinna

Cinna

Cinna is a 5 year old Paso Fino cross gelding.  He came to rescue back in 2014, was trained and adopted, but was not a good fit for his inexperienced owner who failed to properly care for him. Cinna came back to Safe Harbor underweight, fearful, and had regressed in training.  Under the skilled hand of his Safe Harbor foster home, Cinna has been retrained again, and is once again taking a rider.  This is a lovely young gelding with a good head on his shoulders, but he is shy in nature, and apprehensive of strangers and large groups of people.  He prefers the human he has a bond with, and wants to develop a relationship. Cinna leads, loads, ties, and rides.  He stands for the farrier, and he trailers well.  He does require a high fat feed, and does require daily grain to maintain his weight.  This beautiful gelding is available for adoption with a $300 adoption fee.  Apply to adopt...
